Wing Field Day3rd July 2016

On Sunday 3rd July cadets from 230 (Congleton) Squadron attended Wing Field Day at MoD Stafford 4 Site. An event where squadrons from across Staffordshire wing compete against each in other in a variety of different activities from drill to modelling.

Aircraft recognition was the first event for cadets to take part in. A team of three, (cadets Rous, O’Bree and Price) entered for 230. They had to name thirty aircraft from all around the world. Banner drill was next led by banner bearer CWO Lightfoot the team performed very well and their efforts paid off. Drill was the big event of the day and SGT Bonney ably lead the drill team onto the parade square shortly after banner drill was over. The drill team had an inspection first and then proceeded to do their drill sequence which included some difficult new sequences.

Four events had been completed for the event prior to the day. The first aid competition was held the day before (02.07.16) at the same location. A team of four lead by team captain CPL Rogers were tested on different scenarios including a burns patient and an unconscious casualty. The media presentation had been completed at squadron parade nights, the video they produced was based around the past 75 years of the Air Cadet Organisation and how it has progressed and changed. CPL Krinks put the final video together, a link to this video can be found here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GvM13j3BDn0.

Modelling had also been completed on squadron nights and the final models were presented to the judges on the day. Shooting had also been completed prior to the day at RAF Cosford. The team did very well and gained an excellent result.

The day concluded with a huge final parade with over 800 cadets present. Lead by OC Staffordshire Wing, Wing Commander Sharrard-Williams, the parade performed a march past with the VIP guest taking the salute. The honorary guest this year was Group Captain Middleton.

Overall, 230 (Congleton) Squadron performed well at Wing Field Day. They came 10th in drill, 6th in banner drill, 5th in first aid, 10th in modelling, 2nd in shooting, 27th in media and 20th in aircraft recognition. Meaning overall they gained 9th position. A fantastic effort all round by staff and cadets alike.
